Four years ago, Teresa de Lauretis was the guest editor of a special issue of the journal differences devoted to “queer theory.” It was one of the first prominent usages of the term. Now, in the latest issue, differences revisits the subject.
“More Gender Trouble: Feminism Meets Queer Theory” explores the tensions that have developed between the two camps, particularly over the idea that queer theory corrects feminism’s mistakes. “There was this assumption that first came feminist theory, now queer theory,” explains Elizabeth Weed, co-editor of the journal. “We wanted to suggest that things are not that simple and to get some of the complexities out there.”
