Is Rupert Murdoch Eyeing Facebook?
Rumors that Facebook is on the sales block might fade for months at a time, but they never seem to go away completely. And they could soon pick up steam again, writes Dan Farber at Seeking Alpha.
Mr. Farber notes that Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, has recently spent some quality time at brainstorm meetings with Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul behind the News Corporation. Mr. Murdoch's company has shown itself to be keenly interested in social networking: In 2005, it bought MySpace for $580-million.
Would the company take a run at a second social network with an even more intimidating price tag? "The pairing is a long shot," admits Mr. Farber, but he adds that Mr. Murdoch "seems to like having a large footprint by buying up multiple assets, such as newspapers and tabloids, in the same market." --Brock Read
