Courtesy, to use one example, is something that computers cannot quite teach yet. Whether computers ever become the sophisticated teachers Arthur C Clarke envisioned in Songs of Distant Earth remains to be seen. The present certainty is that computers can be useful tools, but nobody has quite figured out how to use them effectively in the classroom. Lawmakers Question Cybersecurity Grants

Three members of Congress are complaining that Carnegie Mellon University may have received grants for cybersecurity research from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security because a university official has been serving as a senior administrator for the federal agency’s cybersecurity efforts.—Vincent Kiernan
