More Colleges Move to Block Myspace

The backlash against Myspace seems to be intensifying. Just a few days after Del Mar College drew headlines for blocking the popular online social site from its network, San Joaquin Delta College, in California, has done the same. And officials on another campus in California, Modesto Junior College, sound as if they, too, are ready to pull Myspace's plug.

Like their colleagues at Del Mar, the Modesto officials say Myspace has become a bandwidth hog. They also worry that the site could cause money problems. George Railey, dean of instructional services, told The Modesto Bee:

"The state reimburses us for the time that students spend on the computers in pursuit of their studies. It will be hard to justify that reimbursement if it turns out that a great percentage of that time is spent on MySpace." (The Modesto Bee)
