FROM ADMISSIONS, A SUBTRACTION
Dickinson College's outspoken vice president for enrollment management and college relations, Robert J. Massa (above), is leaving a profession he has helped define: admissions. In 10 years at Dickinson, he railed against "bidding wars" for students, made standardized-test scores optional, and helped the college's classes become more racially diverse, more accomplished, and wealthier. And he has given a lot of thought to critics who decry "enrollment management" as the commercialization of admissions. (Photograph by Glenn Fawcett)
