NOTES ON THESE DATA
This table shows the tuition and required fees at more than
2,800 colleges and universities in academic 2001-2 and 2002-3. For 2001-2
and 2002-3, charges for both state residents and out-of-state residents are
listed. If an institution charges state residents and non-residents the same
amount, the figure is listed only in the "in-state" column. The 1999-2000
and the 2000-1 figures cover state residents only.
Information is provided for the 50 states, the District of
Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Institutions may be searched by type (4-year or
2-year, public or private), based on information from the U.S. Department of
Education's Institutional Characteristics Survey, which covers 1997-98.
Institutions may also be searched by Carnegie Classification, a
categorization of institutions released by the Carnegie Foundation for the
Advancement of Teaching in 2000. Some institutions are unusual and may
appear in one list, even though they are thought to belong in
another.
The figures represent charges to first-time, full-time
undergraduates based on a nine-month academic year of 30 semester hours or
45 quarter hours.
An asterisk (*) indicates that an institution provided
estimated figures for 2002-3. The designation "n/a" indicates that tuition
figures were not available.
