Carnegie Foundation's Classification of 3,941 Institutions of Higher Education

Note: The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching revised its system and issues new classifications in 2006. The current classifications are available on the foundation's Web site.

This database contains the 2000 Carnegie Classification of Higher Education, including the 1994 classifications of the institutions classified by Carnegie in 2000. You may search the database by Carnegie category, state and territory, and year. The categories are defined in the text below.
