Seventh Annual Survey

Great Colleges to Work For 2014

Why do some colleges weather turbulent times better than others? This year's Great Colleges to Work For survey, based on responses from more than 43,000 campus employees, finds that successful academic workplaces create a culture of accountability. They also promote common values through strong shared-governance policies, making employees feel that they are all players on the same team.

ModernThink LLC administered the survey for The Chronicle and compiled all survey-related content, including college presidents' statements about what makes their institutions great places to work.

This special report also looks at issues that will affect the academic workplace of the future, and profiles some of the men and women who serve in one of academe's most crucial roles—that of mentor.
