Here are some answers to commonly asked questions.

Help for Subscribers

How much does a subscription cost?

The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes 43 issues a year while updating its Web site daily.  A one-year subscription to the print edition costs $87.00.  Subscribers also get full access to all of Chronicle.com at no extra cost.  See our subscription form for more options and information.

What exactly is a digital edition?

The digital edition is an environmental friendly format that allows you to view an exact replica of the newspaper on your computer.  It works with any common Web browser and you can read everything that was published in the print edition.  And like our print subscribers, you can access all the premium, subscriber-only content at Chronicle.com.

I'm a subscriber and I can not gain access the premium content at Chronicle.com.

If you have a Chronicle of Higher Education account, log on at http://chronicle.com/activate and follow the on-screen instructions to activate your access to The Chronicle's premium content.  You'll need a recent issue of The Chronicle as information from your mailing label is required to confirm your subscription.

If you don't have a Chronicle account, create one.  It's free. Create your account and then follow the instructions above.

Mailing label?  I have a digital subscription.  How do I activate my access to The Chronicle's Web site?

Instructions are provided in the e-mail message that delivers your digital Chronicle to you on Mondays.

I can't find my copy of The Chronicle, and I want access now. What do I do?

Help for Account Holders

Why do I need a Chronicle of Higher Education account?

An account is needed in order to take advantage of our free services.

What free services do you provide?

The Chronicle publishes several free e-newsletters including Academe Today, our daily report on the latest events in higher education.  We also publish free newsletters on technology, community colleges, and hiring.  And for those more interested in ideas rather than hard news, we publish The Chronicle Review e-mail newsletter.

You can create an unlimited number of job alerts so that anytime a job is posted that meets your criteria, you are alerted by an e-mail message.

You can participate in meaningful forums with colleagues and experts, sharing their experiences and insights with each other.

Comment on any Chronicle news article or blog.  And forward these same items to others via email when you have a Chronicle account.

And, if you have a subscription, you won't be able to gain access to the premium Web content unless you have an account.
