"Some college administrators seem so distracted with fund raising, academic infighting, and community initiatives that they set up their emergency communications departments very poorly. Training is poor to nonexistent, secretaries are pressed into service with tremendous responsibilities for running 'notification systems' 24/7 and on weekends because no one else knows how to do it and the administration won’t pay for additional staff. Procedures are seat-of-the-pants and dependent on HIPPO (highest paid person’s opinion), except when something like Virginia Tech happens and there is some sort of scramble to do something different." --Donna Most Colleges Avoid Risk Management, Report Says

For instance, a composite score of 33 (out a of possible 36) on the ACT corresponds to a combined score of 1440 to 1480 (out of a possible 1600) on the SAT’s critical-reading and mathematics sections. The tables, released on Tuesday, are based on a joint study of more than 300,000 high-school students who took both tests from 2004 to 2006. ACT Inc. and the College Board plan to release a report on the concordance study later this year. —Eric Hoover Posted on Tuesday July 1, 2008 | Permalink |Comments

Their calculations sound about right. One of my sons got a 30 on his ACT and a 1400 (sans the writing section) on his SAT.

I agree. My son got 34 on ACT and 1460 on SAT (math/reading parts) in spring 2006.

I agree, too. My son received a 35 on the ACT and a 1470 on the SAT (verbal/math), so that sounds about right.

My son got a 2400 on the SATs (with writing) and a 0 on the ACT because he didn’t bother to take it. Won’t that skew the averages?

No, Bill. Re-read the article — it only used .more than 300,000 high-school students who took both tests”
