U. of Colorado Police Find 2 Guns in Student's Dorm Room
An anonymous tip received on Thursday night led the University of Colorado at Boulder police to arrest a student who had a shotgun, a handgun, ammunition, and a foot-long knife in his room in a university dormitory, the university said in a news release.
The university identified the student as Matthew Furnish, but said the case involved “no known threats of violence.” Searching the room with Mr. Furnish’s consent, police officers found the shotgun disassembled and the handgun with safety locks on. Neither gun was loaded. The Rocky Mountain News reported that Mr. Furnish was released on bail Friday but was suspended from the university. He faces weapons-possession charges.
University policy bans guns on the campus, except for those carried by sworn police officers. But the university police will register and store guns for students who live in university housing and are fans of hunting and target shooting. —Lawrence Biemiller
