Gordon College, located in Barnesville, Georgia, is approximately 55 miles south of Atlanta and 35
miles northwest of Macon. Gordon is a two-year, residential college in the University System of
Georgia with a deep and rich history.
From its founding as a male and female seminary in 1852, Gordon has grown in response to and in anticipation of the educational needs of its community. In 1872, the College was named in honor of legendary Georgian General John B. Gordon. General Gordon gained recognition as corps
commander in the Confederate Army and later served three terms in the U.S. Senate and two term's as Georgia's governor. Gordon Military College trained young men, stressing leadership, scholarship and service.
Gordon College became a member of the University System of Georgia in 1972 as an associate level college with a distinctive legacy
of excellence, scholarship and service.
Led by experienced and knowledgeable professors and administrators, Gordon is a friendly and caring college that offers a high
quality education at an affordable price.
With an enrollment of almost 3,000 students and a student- to- teacher ratio of less than 20:1, students have excellent opportunities to
become campus leaders. Most of Gordon's students participate in one of the 39 majors in the college transfer program or in one of
the college's career programs. Nursing students may complete an Associate of Science in Nursing degree or participate in an RN to
BSN completion program in cooperation with the Medical College of Georgia. Gordon boasts solid academic programs, and all of the core curriculum classes are transferable to any of the schools in the University System of
Georgia.
