Bethune-Cookman College, Sustaining Our Founder's Legacy of Faith, Service and Scholarship

Bethune-Cookman College, the 6th largest of the 39-member UNCF colleges is located in the Atlantic coast city of Daytona Beach, Florida, which has a metropolitan area population of more than 165,000.

Founded by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune in 1904, the college is an historically Black, United Methodist Church-related, liberal arts, career-oriented, coeducational and residential institution offering the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 36 major areas through six academic schools: Arts and Humanities, Business, Education, Nursing, Science, Engineering, & Mathematics, and Social Sciences.

The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the bachelor's degree. It is also accredited by the Florida State Department of Education, the University Senate of the United Methodist Church, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, Accreditation Commission for programs in Hospitality Administration and National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.

The main campus with 36 buildings spanning over 70 acres of land is situated on Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard bounded by George W. Engram Boulevard and Lincoln Streets, International Speedway and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevards. Its ideal location provides an easy access to business centers, churches, theaters, museums, beaches and recreational facilities, bus and air terminals.

There are three male and five female residence halls to house 1772 students.

The total full time teaching faculty number is 150, 55% of whom hold the earned doctorate degree.

During 2003-04, the college awarded 274 Bachelor degrees.

Headcount Enrollment for Fall 2004 = 2895 (FTE 2810) and Spring 2005 = 2793 (FTE 2701). Average 2004-2005 FTE = 2756

Female students constitute 60% of the total enrollment while male students comprise 40%.

Florida students constitute 64% of total enrollment, 32% of students come from out-of-state and 4% represent the Caribbean Islands and more than 30 foreign countries.

Under the Continuing Education Program the college currently operates extension sites in the state of Florida in Bradenton, Fort Pierce, Gainesville, Spuds (branch campus), Sanford, West Palm Beach, and a weekend college on campus.

The market value of the College's endowment asset is $25,561,826 (as of June 30, 2004).
