Our Success Begins With You

At METROPOLITAN STATE COLLEGE OF DENVER, success is defined many ways. Because Metro State is a teaching institution, our success begins with high-quality faculty members who focus their passion and unique expertise to deliver individualized, relevant instruction that impacts student success. And because our students bring valuable real-world experience to their classes, faculty teaches students who are seriously prepared to learn and ready to make an impact that has effects personally, locally and globally.

With more than 21,000 students, Metro State is Colorado's second-largest higher education institution and one of the largest public four-year colleges in the nation. But, our average class size is just 22 students. Because of this, faculty and students are more able to foster close partnerships that directly lead to real academic breakthroughs.

Metro State is an innovative and progressive institution that strongly advocates the continued enhancement of the learning environment. Faculty and staff truly personify success each day by blending diverse backgrounds, exceptional skills and outstanding contributions to support the myriad departments and divisions that offer Metro State students opportunities to explore 53 majors, 82 minors and more than 300 academic options.

Located on the 175-acre Auraria Campus in the heart of downtown Denver, Metro State provides a campus experience that is both safe and accessible. Urban character is a vital aspect of Metro State's personality. Not only does it encourage faculty and students to extend their learning opportunities into the vibrant Denver community, it also fosters a commitment to diversity that affords success to all students.

Metro State is proud to be Denver's most diverse four-year college. Students of color make up nearly a quarter of our student body, and roughly one-fifth of all tenured and tenure-track faculty members are people of color. Metro State is truly tuned in to the heartbeat of Denver. Getting here is easy and convenient, whether driving or using public transportation (11 RTD bus routes and two RTD Light Rail stations service the campus). Culture, recreation, dining, shopping and entertainment are within walking distance of the College, including the world-renowned Denver Art Museum, Elitch Gardens amusement park, the Cherry Creek bike trail, the REI flagship store, Denver Pavilions, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and local professional sports venues.

Metro State is a teaching institution where academic excellence is accorded the highest priority. The College seeks to attract and build long-term relationships with highly qualified faculty and staff that possess diverse expertise, interests and abilities. As partners in the College's fulfillment of its mission, faculty, staff and student participation through shared governance is encouraged and valued.

Metro State continually re-examines and improves its processes in order to achieve the best practices in human resource management. Establishing partnerships with our constituents and working collaboratively with them to develop innovative and value-added solutions to meet their changing needs is the goal we strive toward.

Since its inception in 1963, Metro State has sought to recruit and hire the finest candidates available. Our philosophy is to hire the best-qualified person for any given position regardless of race, color, disability, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age or veteran status. While we set goals for fuller utilization of women and people of color, the choice of the best-qualified applicant is our top priority.

It is the policy of Metropolitan State College at Denver to comply with all applicable federal and state antidiscrimination laws. The College will not engage in unlawful discrimination in employment opportunities or educational services against any person because of race, religion, gender, age, national origin, disability, veteran or marital status, or sexual orientation. The College shall have an Equal Opportunity Office to ensure adherence to the policy. The Equal Opportunity Office shall develop an affirmative action plan conforming to federal and state law, which shall be submitted to the Board of Trustees for consideration and approval. The College will post in conspicuous places notices setting forth the provisions of the College's equal opportunity policy.
