University of Wisconsin Milwaukee

Milwaukee has a larger population than Boston, Seattle, or Denver. Surprised?

There's a lot about our city and our university that might surprise you.

Or maybe not.

After all, anyone following dynamic developments in the United States knows that the Calatrava addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum has taken wing, bringing new prominence to our dazzling lakefront. Our professional sports scene was bolstered by the 2001 debut of the Milwaukee Brewers' Miller Park.

All this is happening within Milwaukee, a city of colleges. A 2000 study by McGill University in Montreal showed the Milwaukee area had the sixth greatest concentration of college students per 100 residents in the United States and Canada.

More than 24,000 of those students are joining us at UW-Milwaukee. They are participating in 146 different undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Since 1998, we've been working on a major campus initiative: The Milwaukee Idea. Just this summer, it received significant financial support in the Wisconsin state budget.

The Milwaukee Idea emphasizes region-wide initiatives in the areas of education, economic development, and environment. Specific programs provide additional outstanding prospects for our people to grow in their research, teaching, and service.

In short, there are big opportunities at UW-Milwaukee for faculty, staff, and students.
