Founded in 1910 by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Radford University has matured into a comprehensive, coeducational institution providing a wide range of academic, cultural, public service and research programs. With a Fall 2005 undergraduate enrollment of 9,552 including 1070 graduate students, RU distinguishes itself through its faculty's commitment to the learning experience and close professor-student interaction. The university offers 106 program options through its six undergraduate colleges: Business and Economics, Arts and Sciences, Information Science and Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, Health and Human Services and Education and Human Development. In addition there are 38 programs of study at the masters and specialist levels in the College of Graduate and Extended Education.

Overlooking the historic New River in the City of Radford, RU provides a stimulating yet tranquil setting in a beautiful region of Virginia. Located conveniently to Interstate 81, Radford is within easy driving distance of mid-East Coast metropolitan areas. In addition, the university community has supported the development of a cultural atmosphere that rivals that of many major urban universities.

Today RU is also boldly advancing new programs to prepare graduates to succeed in a rapidly changing technological environment. High tech centers can be found throughout the disciplines. Radford University believes in the dynamics of change and has a strong commitment to continuous review, evaluation and improvement in the curriculum and all aspects of the university.

In addition to its main campus of 177 acres RU owns a 376-acre nature conservancy and recently received a 78-acre parcel that is being developed at RU's West Campus.

Long recognized for its excellent facilities, RU recently opened a new Student Union and over the next six years will invest more than $27.5 million in the construction of the new Douglas and Beatrice Covington Fine Arts Center and major renovation of three existing academic buildings.

RU Highlights:

  • RU consistently ranks in the top 25 public masters universities in the South in the U.S. News and World Report educational guide.
  • In recent years, Radford also has been recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the top colleges in the Mid-Atlantic region and by the Kaplan/Newsweek College Guide for schools that offer the maximum amount of individual attention, that are academically competitive and that provide close contact with faculty.

  • In two recent Capital Campaigns, RU has raised more than $67 million in private gifts.
  • In addition to the main campus, RU maintains programs at Virginia Western Community College, the Roanoke Higher Education Center, Carilion Roanoke/Memorial Hospital and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon.
  • Radford's College of Information Science and Technology is one of only a handful in the entire country breaking new ground in this realm of education.
  • RU's Waldron College of Health and Human Services sponsors a mobile health clinic that serves areas in Western Virginia. This venture fulfills the college's mission of providing quality care to some of Virginia's medically underserved regions while educating future health and human services professionals.
