Employer Profile

Founded in 1839 in the historic Commonwealth of Virginia, Longwood University is a coeducational, comprehensive public institution offering 100 majors, minors, and concentrations to over 4000 students through three colleges: Business and Economics, Arts and Sciences, and Education and Human Services. Longwood also offers graduate programs in education, environmental science, English, and sociology.

With a central and convenient location in Farmville, Longwood provides excellent facilities while reflecting the charm, beauty, and character associated with its heritage. Construction is underway on Brock Commons, a beautiful pedestrian mall that will convert a main campus street into the main focal point of the campus. Plans are also underway for a new science building and a recreational fitness center that will be constructed soon.

Longwood is committed to developing citizen leaders and provides a meaningful learning environment that prepares students for the real world of work. All graduates must complete an internship or other approved experiential learning and the university has integrated technology throughout the learning process.

Longwood is one of the most engaging universities in the country, according to the National Survey of Student Engagement. In the 2002 survey, seniors rated Longwood at or above the 80th percentile on 6 of the 9 NSSE benchmarks when compared with Masters institutions; freshmen rated Longwood at or above the 60th percentile on all 9 benchmarks when compared with Masters institutions. Student Engagement with Technology continued to lead the way at the 90th percentile or higher.

And for the fifth year in a row, Longwood is ranked among the top regional public schools in the South in the 2003 U.S.News & World Report's "Best Colleges" Guide.
