Over 190,000 people call Laredo home and the city was recently named the fastest growing city in Texas and the second fastest in the United States. Between 1960 and 1990, Laredo's population doubled. This is attributed to Laredo's growing importance as a manufacturing and trading center on the Texas- Mexico border, which has drawn increasing numbers of people from the surrounding region.

The Rio Grande winds its way between Laredo and its sister city, Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Nuevo Laredo is home to over 360,000 people and offers its own rich culture, history and traditions, most shared by the peoples of Los Dos Laredos.

Long a proud partner with its service community, the University enjoys support from public and private sector partners securing brighter futures through support of student scholarships, program development and construction.
