Welcome to Rice University

Rice is a first-tier research university dedicated to pathbreaking research, unsurpassed teaching and contributions to the betterment of our world. Located on a 300-acre wooded campus just minutes from downtown Houston, the university has eight academic schools and numerous other interdisciplinary programs and research centers that all offer opportunities for educational, professional and cultural growth.

Rice's location in vibrant, diverse Houston allows students, faculty and staff to draw on its wealth of resources. The city is rich in the arts and culture, thanks to its world-class performing arts organizations and renowned museum exhibitions, and it's also a major economic and business hub. Twenty-one Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Houston - second only to New York City.

Rice's Vision

Rice is preparing to enter its second century, and the university is moving toward a dynamic future. In 2005, after consulting with all of Rice's constituencies, President David W. Leebron put forth his Vision for the Second Century, a comprehensive, 10-point plan to raise Rice's research and scholarship profile; strengthen its graduate and postdoctoral programs, collaborative relationships and engagement with Houston; and increase its international presence.

A Dynamic Working Environment

No matter what position you hold, you will play a vital role in cultivating Rice's diverse community of learning and discovery. And as part of that community, you will have the chance to be part of an institution that is impacting the city, state, country and world.

Rice employees enjoy a wide array of benefits, including health and dental coverage for you and your family, retirement plans and generous benefit time and holidays as well as access to all of the university's world-class facilities. Rice is a great place to work. Just ask the experts at the Houston Business Journal, who in 2006 and in 2007 named us one of the best places to work in Houston.
