Baylor University

Campus Image
More than 160 years ago, Baylor University's Baptist founders sought to establish an institution of higher learning dedicated to Christian principles, superior academics and a shared sense of community. The University's motto— Pro Ecclesia, Pro Texana (for church, for state)— established these tenets as central to our mission. Baylor's Vision statement reaffirms the university's commitment to the ideals of academic and spiritual excellence within the context of community.

While remaining true to its heritage, Baylor has grown to more than 13,000 students. Its 11 nationally recognized academic divisions offer 146 baccalaureate degree programs, 73 master's degrees in 65 programs of study, one educational specialist degree, and 22 doctoral degree programs, the master of divinity and doctor of ministry, and the juris doctor degree.

Baylor's mission is to become one of the world's leading Christian research universities. We seek to make appointments of excellent scholar-teachers at all levels, and we invite applications (and nominations) from those who are attracted to our mission. We have particular interest in scholars whose work is interdisciplinary in nature.

As the academic, learning and professional environment flourishes, the reputation and recognition of Baylor will continue to expand, meaning more attention from peers and the academic community. There also will be more attention drawn to discoveries and scholarly activities that originate at Baylor. Increased awareness serves to increase the reach of Baylor's influence, as well as affirming the ability of an academic setting to thrive within a Christian context.

This year, Baylor offers many new and replacement positions across a wide range of disciplines. Prospective faculty may visit our Web site at http://www.baylor.edu/path/pfaculty.htm for details on positions now advertised. Post-doctoral appointments also are offered on an annual basis, sometimes renewable.

The 735-acre campus is located on the banks of the Brazos River in Waco, Texas, a metropolitan area of 213,000 people.

Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas and affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Baylor is the oldest continually operating institution of higher learning in the state.
