Excellence in teaching begins with hiring. The college conducts nationwide searches for its instructors and sponsors a five-day new faculty institute, during which new instructors are paired with veterans who serve as mentors throughout the year. PCC strives to hire instructors with "hands-on" experience for technical and professional programs, and also offers teaching workshops to help instructors improve their skills. The innovative "Teaching and Learning Centers" at our three campuses are a valued resource for our faculty.

Our three comprehensive campuses are full-service facilities which offer university transfer courses, associate degree programs and professional-technical career training. Our centers are located throughout the PCC district and offer more limited, and often specialized, classes.

The Extended Learning Campus offers job training, adult education and life-long learning, welfare-to-work, alternative high school programs and much more at hundreds of community sites.

Portland Community College is the largest postsecondary institution in Oregon, enrolling more than 86,000 part- and full-time students annually. The 1,500-square- mile district is located in Northwest Oregon and includes all or part of five counties with a population of more than 1,060,000 residents.

Portland Community College is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Colleges. Many programs within the college have accreditation from professional associations.

PCC achieves educational excellence by being accountable and committed to achieving diversity in its student, faculty and staff ranks. In 2007, PCC received the National Equity Award from the Association of Community College Trustees. The award was based on our efforts to hire a more diverse workforce and to ensure opportunities for access to education for women and students of color.

As an Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity institution, PCC is actively seeking qualified minorities, women, and individuals with disabilities to enhance its work force and to reflect the diversity of its student body. Reasonable accommodation will be considered in compliance with the ADA.
