The University of Toledo

The University of Toledo is located in Toledo, Ohio, USA, on a suburban campus that is six miles west of the downtown area. As the fourth largest state university in Ohio with enrollment of approximately 21,000 students, UT offers more than 140 academic programs and associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degrees granted through eight colleges. UT's warm environment provides individual attention, undergraduate classes that average 23 students, and a student/faculty ratio of 19/1. Students come from almost every county in Ohio, all 50 states and 98 countries. Full- and part-time students are people of all races, cultures and backgrounds.

Nearly 20 student service-related offices and programs are available to enhance formal classroom experiences. There are more than 200 student organizations from which to choose. They include academic honoraries, fraternities and sororities, music and dance groups, and more than 40 intramural/sport club programs. UT also competes in the NCAA Division I-A in 19 men's and women's sports.

During the 90's, UT added a $17.3 million Student Recreation Center, an honors-academic center residence hall, a housing village for members of its fraternities and sororities, and a visual arts building on the grounds of the world-renowned Toledo Museum of Art. UT renovated and expanded its Glass Bowl football stadium and its Student Union. UT recently constructed a $25 million College of Engineering complex, and a $33 million Pharmacy, Chemistry and Life Sciences complex. Classrooms, on-campus housing, and a center for international studies have also been completed.

The city of Toledo provides UT students with access to business, industrial, social, and cultural opportunities. Students have the chance to benefit from cooperative educational (COOP) experiences, internships, and a diverse job market, as well as from the activities and excitement of the city of Toledo.

The University is justifiably proud of its highly qualified faculty. More than 1,400 graduate assistants and full-time and part-time faculty members teach at the University. Of the full-time faculty members, more than 80 percent hold doctorates. Members of the faculty are active not only within the University setting, but also are involved with community programs, research projects and the publication of professional articles and textbooks. A most significant quality of the University faculty is its interest in students and its commitment to providing the best possible learning experience and environment.

A university is more than just a campus -- it is people. Faculty members of The University of Toledo realize this and extend their efforts beyond the typical classroom, seeking to be available to students and respond to their individual needs. This is more than a philosophical objective; it is a way of life at The University of Toledo.
