About ONU

Ohio Northern University is an independent, coeducational, residential institution that is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1871, ONU enrolls 3,526 students in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Law and Pharmacy. The undergraduate colleges offer baccalaureate degrees in 63 areas. The College of Law offers the J.D. and College of Pharmacy, the Pharm.D.

Generous Faculty & Staff Benefits

Educational assistance: ONU provides two programs to assist with the cost of tuition for children of eligible employees: tuition remission and a competitive tuition exchange program.

Health insurance: ONU offers two health plans, and the university pays a portion of the premium cost for individuals. A wide regional and statewide medical provider network serves the plan.

Retirement plan: Employees may save for their retirement using multiple investment options from industry-leading plans provided by TIAA-CREF. All contributions, both University and employee, are vested in the interest of the employee.

Income replacement plans: ONU provides short-term disability, sick leave and long-term disability plans, worker's compensation, and basic life insurance coverage.

Leaves: ONU offers sabbatical leaves, as well as medical, maternity and military leaves for faculty.

Academics: Focus on liberal arts and professional education

ONU's academic program includes mutually supportive liberal and professional education components, integrates practice with theory and provides students with opportunities for research, internships, co-op and international study and work. In fact, 37% of its students have worked on a research project with a faculty member outside of course or program requirements.

About the College of Arts & Sciences

Getty College of Arts & Sciences is the oldest college of the University, founded in August 1871. The college has experienced strong enrollment growth over the past five years. The college comprises five divisions: humanities, social sciences, teacher education/technology/human performance and sport sciences, mathematics/natural sciences, and fine arts. There are fifteen departments, each with a chair reporting directly to the dean, and the college offers 47 majors and seven degrees (BA, BFA, BS, B.S.C.L.S., BM, BSN, MET). Professional programs are offered in the medical sciences, pre-seminary, pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy, pre-physician assistant and pre-law. The Center for Teacher Education supports 14 teacher licensure programs accredited by NCATE and approved by the State of Ohio. Other programs in the college accredited by special disciplines are athletic training, chemistry, clinical laboratory science, nursing, technological studies and music. The faculty and teaching facilities are housed in seven academic buildings and there are two off-campus nature centers. The college cooperates with the other three undergraduate/first professional colleges in a number of programs and provides courses in liberal education, mathematics and the sciences for all first degree majors.

About the College of Business Administration

The College of Business Administration is accredited by AACSB International. In fact, ONU is one of the five private universities in Ohio with an accredited business college. As an undergraduate-only business program, the College is committed to excellence in undergraduate education. Three hundred students are engaged in business studies. Students have the opportunity to major in Accounting, Management, Marketing or International Business and Economics.

About the College of Engineering

The Thomas Jefferson Smull College of Engineering includes the departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering. The college offers bachelor of science degree programs in civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering which are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The college also offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in computer science. Approximately 425 students are enrolled in the college, with 20 dedicated faculty members—nearly all of who hold the Ph.D. degree.

About the College of Pharmacy

There are 25 on-campus full-time faculty members and 976 students in The Raabe College of Pharmacy. It is one of the few programs nationwide which admits students directly without college level pre-requisites. The curricula offered are based on the Pharm.D. degree, traditional and non-traditional. The College has well-equipped laboratories and a drug information center. The Department of Pharmacy Practice consists of 16 faculty members with interests in the areas of pharmacokinetics, drug information, pharmacy administration, therapeutics, physical assessment, ethics, and pharmacy law. The Department employs 24 off-campus clinical faculty located in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. The Department of Pharmaceutical and Biological Sciences consists of 9 full-time faculty with interests and expertise in the areas of biochemistry, drug abuse, immunology, medicinal chemistry, neuropharmacology, pharmaceutics, psychopharmacology, and toxicology. Student research is enthusiastically encouraged and supported.
