Founded in 1889, the State University of New York College at Oneonta became a founding member of the SUNY system in 1948. Oneonta is a state supported, comprehensive, co educational college of the liberal arts and sciences. The 250 acre main campus has 32 buildings, including the James M. Milne Library with the second largest collection among the SUNY colleges of arts and sciences. On nearby Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, the College maintains a complex which houses its Biological Field Station and Graduate Program in History Museum Studies. Oneonta fields a host of intercollegiate sports for both men and women. The Alumni Field House and a new residence hall are the latest additions to the College's modern, ever changing campus.

The College at Oneonta is large enough to offer the opportunities a small school cannot—69 undergraduate majors and nine graduate programs, ample information resources, and the finest and most modern facilities. Yet it's small enough to maintain the personal touch. The College enrolls more than 5,800 students with 475 faculty making the student to faculty ratio approximately 17:1. Oneonta confers the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science, and Certificate of Advanced Study in addition to offering post baccalaureate certificate programs in Adolescence Education and cooperative programs with other institutions. The College emphasizes academic quality, admissions selectivity, diversity, character building, and volunteer service to the community.

Located halfway between Albany and Binghamton, the City of Oneonta is a classic college town with a fine selection of shops and restaurants. Bus transportation is available from early morning to late night.
