San José State University, powering silicon valley

campus image

Located at the core of Silicon Valley, San José State University supplies the area's high tech economy with thousands of graduates in engineering, business and science each year. With 134 degree programs offered through eight colleges, the university also sends well-prepared graduates into teaching, social work, journalism, health professions, and the arts. In addition, numerous graduates go into public service, many seeking and winning elected office.

Quality teaching and small classes are a priority in both bachelor's and master's degree programs, where tenured professors teach introductory as well as advanced courses. One of the top 200 research universities in the nation, SJSU offers rigorous course work and research opportunities to both graduate and undergraduate students. Partnerships with such companies as Cisco, Hewlett Packard and Advanced Micro Devices, as well as numerous community outreach projects, strengthen and enrich the teaching and learning experience.

Located on 154 acres in downtown San José, the university offers the excitement of working and studying at a large, metropolitan campus where many cultures meet. The student body is just over 29,000. More than 100 languages are spoken on the campus. New facilities include the award-winning Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, which houses nationally recognized centers for the study of the works of John Steinbeck and Ludwig von Beethoven. Campus Village, a new housing complex opening in fall 2005, will include a building for faculty, staff and guest housing.

Founded in 1857, San José State is the oldest public institution of higher learning on the West Coast. The university welcomes freshmen, transfer, graduate and international students seeking a demanding and transforming education.
