- Indiana State expands upon tradition. Indiana State University, established in 1865, is a four-year public university that embraces its mission to educate the leaders of tomorrow. With focus on experiential learning and research, programs of distinction, and civic engagement, Indiana State excels in working with community leaders across the state to create and implement a vision for a better tomorrow.
- Indiana State fosters an active environment of experiential learning. From day one, our students are challenged through well-rounded experiential academic programs and reap the benefits of working side-by-side our expert faculty. Because this interaction, our students gain confidence, experience, and a resume of accomplishments that go far beyond the classroom. Located in a park-like setting in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana State University has the facilities, diversity and distinctive academic programs associated with large universities, but with the atmosphere of a small, close-knit campus.
- Indiana State supports faculty research. To support faculty in their research endeavors, Indiana State faculty members are eligible to participate in the "Promising Scholars," a program awarding recipients research grants up to $15,000.
Promising Scholars is open to educators who have not yet attained the rank of professor but have demonstrated a commitment to meaningful research that has the potential to benefit the state of Indiana and the nation. The program is designed to attract and retain exceptionally qualified faculty by providing support for scholarly research early in their careers.
- Indiana State creates and recognizes distinctive programs. Our Distinctive Program Initiative distinguishes ISU by recognizing and supporting programs or activities that have achieved a national and/or regional reputation for the quality of their work, that reflect the values of Indiana State, and that meet state and/or national needs.
- Indiana State leads the way in terms of technology. Indiana State will become the first public university in the state to require all students to have notebook computers, beginning with incoming freshmen in fall 2007. The university is one of a handful of institutions nationally to institute similar mobile computing initiatives. In addition to the wireless capabilities available throughout the campus, Indiana State's high performance computing environment supports research across a wide range of academic fields including Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry and Mathematics.
The Center for Instruction, Research and Technology (CIRT) is working with computational chemists and physicists on campus to support Gaussin, MOLPRO, GAMESS, NWChem, as well as a range of bioinformatics and life science applications such as BLAT, EMBOSS, HMMer, and MATLAB. CIRT provides academic programming services as well as software tools and techniques to effectively make use of clusters for computational science research. A wide range of training opportunities for faculty and graduate students on the uses of high performance computing in research activities is also available.
- Indiana State embraces diversity. With a student population of more than 10,000, Indiana State attracts students from every county in Indiana, every state in the nation, and over 80 countries around the world.
Indiana State employs approximately 1,194 faculty and staff, including 478 full-time faculty. Competitive benefits include domestic partner benefits, insurance, dependent child fee waiver and a flexible health care costs spending program.
- Indiana State produces continued success. In communities worldwide, more than 75,000 Indiana State University alumni are making their marks in the arts, business and industry, government, education, healthcare, science and the world of sports.
