DAILY E-MAIL UPDATE

More than 59,000 Chronicle readers subscribe to the daily e-mail update. You can view a sample daily e-mail, complete with advertising, at http://chronicle.com/about-help.dir/adv/web/email.htm. Each weekday morning, subscribers receive summaries of the top news stories of the day, with links to more extensive coverage on this site. Of readers who receive the daily e-mail report, more than half forward it to colleagues. The total readership of the daily e-mail is more than 160,000. Only one advertiser's six-line message, including a Web address, is included toward the top of each daily e-mail, giving exclusive attention to that advertiser's message and link.

WEEKLY JOB ALERT E-MAIL

Approximately 80,000 Chronicle readers -- the majority of whom are not subscribers -- have signed up to receive the weekly job notify e-mail. Because they can sign up for multiple job positions there are a total of more than 290,000 job alert e-mails sent each week. Only one advertiser's six-line message, including a Web address, can be included within the body of of each job-notify e-mail, giving exclusive attention to that advertiser's message and link.

BANNER ADVERTISING

Banner advertising opportunities are available throughout the site, including within Chronicle Careers. Using DoubleClick's DART technology, advertisers can target their desired audience by editorial section, country, state, zip and area code, top-level and second-level domains (harvard.edu), operating system, Internet service provider, and browser type. The cost per banner ad depends on the desired number of monthly impressions, as well as the number of targeting elements. To target Chronicle Careers in general (1 element) the cost is $36 per thousand impressions The minimum purchase is 10,000 impressions, but to be effective within the Chronicle Careers pages we strongly recommend that a minimum of 100,000 be purchased.
