The C.V. Doctor: From C.V. to Résumé

Career Talk

Practical guidance for academic job seekers from professional career counselors

Erin Keay (a pseudonym) is considering careers in science journalism, public relations, and industrial research. Her C.V. is fairly typical for a science graduate student (she is a Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience), but it's unusual in the number of refereed publications. Here is her C.V. before revision.

Note: Some formatting (i.e. the spacing of headings, line breaks, and dates) may not be accurately respresented due to screen-width limitations.

Research Interests:

My primary research interests are nociceptive transmission and neuropharmacological mechanisms for antinociception. My thesis research evaluated the ability of marijuana-like drugs to dampen the behavioral and spinal hypersensitivity triggered by peripheral injury. A future goal is to incorporate intracellular recording, and molecular techniques to understand the mechanisms that produce chronic pain states and how to pharmacologically intervene.
