Miami University seeks an energetic, creative, and collaborative person to work as an Assistant Director for Admission and Coordinator of Urban Outreach serving as a member of a staff responsible for attracting, recruiting, and enrolling an academically talented and diverse student body to Miami University. This position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Admission. Position is permanent, full-time, 12 months. Admission: Assistant Director for Admission and Coordinator of Urban Outreach to be responsible for attracting, recruiting, and enrolling an academically talented and diverse student body; develop, coordinate, and implement proactive outreach programs, both on- and off- campus, targeting underrepresented students attending Ohio urban school districts with the specific goal of increasing the number of student visitors and matriculants to Miami University; coordinate with admission colleagues and various university partners, to develop and implement off-campus outreach and marketing efforts designed to increase Miami University's visibility and success in Ohio urban school districts; work collaboratively with the admission marketing communication team and the University's Marketing and Creative Services office on communication development for Ohio urban outreach, including print publications, emails, social media, and various website(s); in partnership with the travel coordinator, work with individual recruitment territory managers to assess and evaluate distinct territory strategies for recruitment in Ohio school districts; conduct extensive overnight recruitment travel ranging from 4-6 weeks annually to identify new and further develop and enhance high school relationships with key Ohio urban school districts; develop and document presentations specifically geared toward Miami's outreach efforts (parent workshops, application workshops, etc.) and aggressively market the availability of these presentations throughout urban areas of the state; create and document a comprehensive list of outreach activities in Ohio urban school districts, determine action steps for follow-up, refer to the appropriate admission/university faculty/staff member, ensure that actions are taken, and document and evaluate outcomes; promote and provide college access information in various formats (e.g., publications, PowerPoint presentations) to guidance counselors, students, parents and community-based organizations in all Ohio urban areas; create strong strategic partnerships with key Ohio community-based organizations and facilitate visit opportunities to Miami University's campus; identify the potential for, and subsequently facilitate partnerships between faculty/departments and community-based organizations/underserved high schools throughout Ohio; analyze demographic trends related to underrepresented populations in Ohio, regionally and nationally to better inform office policy and practices concerning underrepresented recruitment, outreach, application review and yield efforts; regularly benchmark best practices of peer and aspirant institutions to inform Miami policies and practices; develop programming for alumni recruitment and yield events in urban areas of Ohio; work with the Regional Recruiters to identify and develop a concrete recruitment plan with strategic community- based organizations and high schools in urban settings outside of Ohio with high underrepresented student populations; manage specific recruitment territories located in Ohio urban areas, and support various recruitment activities of other territory managers in Ohio, regionally, and nationally; assist senior staff with projects, including various outreach efforts, on-and off-campus events and programs, communication activities, information sessions, and phone duties as assigned to support all office-wide recruitment efforts; participate in application review as assigned; other duties as assigned. Require: Bachelor's degree; 1-3 years of experience in higher education, outreach, recruitment, marketing or demonstrated commitment in working with urban, low-income and under-represented individuals; diplomatic and possess exceptional written and oral communication skills and group presentation skills; proven ability to build relationships and work with diverse constituencies; collaborative team player while also able to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; must be able to perform extensive overnight travel; must possess a valid driver's license. Desire: Master's Degree; highly organized, detail oriented and have a proven track record of successfully planning, implementing and evaluating complex outreach activities; demonstrated knowledge and experience with computer systems and various software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
