The Centre for Modernism Studies in Australia was established in 2010 as a Research Centre within the School of Arts and Media (formerly the School of English, Media and Performing Arts). Directed by Professor Julian Murphet, it consolidates existing research strengths in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and fosters relationships with the Faculty of the Built Environment and the College of Fine Arts. The Centre provides national leadership in Modernism Studies, and as a Sister Centre to the Centre for Modernist Studies at the University of Sussex, is instrumental in fostering an international research nexus with specializations in all areas of Modernism Studies. The School of Arts and Media provides a research-intensive environment in which literary, cinematic, media, performance and creative research initiatives interact, staffed by prominent and upcoming academics. It boasts a vibrant and engaged postgraduate community, dynamic seminar series, and two major research centres. The Centre is now seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in film and/or theatre studies, to undertake a research project focusing on issues of Modernism specific to the chosen medium. The successful candidate will pursue a self-directed research project over the duration of their appointment, as well as undertake other duties related to the Centre and their research field (publishing, applying for grants, and helping to run a major research centre).

This is a full-time position, available for a fixed term of three years commencing in mid-2012.

Applicants should systematically address the selection criteria in their application. UNSW is an equal opportunity employer. Women and people from equity groups are warmly encouraged to apply.

Having read the documentation, you may then direct any enquiries to Professor Julian Murphet on telephone (61 2) 9385 4521, or email: j.murphet@unsw.edu.au
