Professor, Kinesiology and
Head Coach, Women's Basketball
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide instruction in Kinesiology theory, activity and lab
classes
- Coaching assignment in the sport of Women's Basketball and
responsibilities set forth by the Athletics Director; oversee the
entire program including matriculation, recruiting, scheduling,
eligibility, monitoring academic progress, budgets, transportation
and fundraising; recruitment and supervision of assistant
coaches
- Attendance at conference meetings and knowledge of coaching in
accordance with the objectives, policies, regulations and
procedures established by the Division and Conference and State
Athletic Constitutions
- Participate in curriculum development, serve on
College/Department committees as necessary to maintain and improve
the instructional program, and participate in appropriate
professional development activities
- Performance in related duties as assigned, including timely
compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities,
College policies, division policies and department policies
- Provide support for the growth and success of a diverse
population of students through careful preparation of course
materials, effective teaching methods, and informed critical
feedback on assignments and discussions
- Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part
of the regular contract
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A. )One of the following awarded/conferred from an accredited
institution:
1.) Master's in physical education, exercise science, education
with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of
exercise, or adaptive physical education; OR
2.) Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in any life
science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation
administration, or physical therapy OR the equivalent; OR
3.)Equivalency: Master's degree in Sports Management, Sports
Medicine, or Sports Science and Bachelor's in Physical Education,
Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or the equivalent; or Master's
degree (in any field) and Bachelor's in Physical Education,
Exercise Science, Kinesiology or equivalent and one of the
following: 1. Four years of teaching/coaching experience at a
college or university in Physical Education, Athletics or related
field; 2. Four years of teaching/coaching experience at the high
school level in Physical Education or Athletics; 3. Four years of
teaching/coaching experience at the professional level in the sport
related to the position; OR
4.)California Community College credential authorizing service as
an instructor in the appropriate discipline
B.)Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of
providing quality programs and services for students with diverse
abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and
sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and
commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students
C.)Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written
English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Head Coaching experience in the sport of Women's Basketball
- Experience teaching Kinesiology theory and activity
courses.
- Ability to develop a successful basketball program academically
and athletically
- Commitment to assisting students throughout the matriculation
process
Involvement in meeting the mission and functions of the
Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance Division
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must have the ability to get to a variety of
locations. This is usually accomplished by driving a personal
vehicle to said locations. If operating a vehicle, the ability to
secure and maintain a valid California driver's license is
required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract
position that begins in the regular academic year 2012-13.
Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education,
full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience,
up to a maximum placement at step 9.
Any provisional offer of employment is dependent upon the
candidate's successful completion of their fingerprint clearance
prior to the start of employment. Additionally, the cost of the
fingerprint clearance will be borne by the candidate.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
A committee will evaluate applications, taking into account breadth
and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills,
knowledge, and abilities. Interviews may include a writing sample,
committee presentation, teaching demonstration, and/or performance
test. The committee will recommend finalists to the College
President for a second interview. Travel costs for over 150 miles
one way will be reimbursed up to $500. The number of vacancies is
dependent on student enrollment, College resources, needs, and
Board of Trustees' approval. Beginning date of employment will be
August 24, 2012.
*SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary: Initial placement $55,417 - $88,526.

The College contributes $10,500 toward annual premiums for medical,
dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Lifetime retirement
benefits provided for eligible retirees.
The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement
System (PERS) and State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS)
retirement programs.
