Senior Development Writer Office of Duke University
Development
Are you an accomplished institutional storyteller looking for a
chance to make a mark? We're seeking a talented writer and editor
with high standards (and a sense of humor) to join Duke
University's expanding development communications team. You'll help
us tell Duke's story across a variety of mediumsâ??both traditional
and digital to internal and external audiences. And you'll play a
significant role as we expand and shape a robust program of
content-driven communications, marketing tools, and services
designed to promote fundraising priorities and enhance the
university's ability to connect with donors. Project assignments
could include newsletters, publications, proposals, web content,
news releases, video scripts, direct marketing solicitations,
social media campaigns, invitations, advertising copy, and more. To
be successful on our team, you'll need to be a skilled wordsmith
capable of producing and editing both punchy headlines and clear,
engrossing narratives. You'll also need to be flexible true team
player who collaborates effectively with editors, freelance
writers, designers, development officers, and university leaders. A
self-starter, you'll combine strategic thinking, excellent
editorial judgment, and attention to detail with the ability to
juggle projects and work quickly and accurately under deadline
pressure. And while you'll have plenty of visibility and room to be
creative as you shape this role, you'll need to adhere to (and help
develop) both a consistent brand voice and department-wide
communications practices. Familiarity with Duke University and a
track record of success in higher education or fundraising
communications will also be useful, but not essential.
