Senior Network Engineer
The Senior Network Engineer designs, troubleshoots, and
analyzes LAN/WAN and VoIP infrastructures with specific emphasis on
planning and continuous development of network security strategy
and best practices in support of the College's information security
architecture. Serves as a member of Network Services team by
providing cross-functional duties such as monitoring and
troubleshooting wireless and wired networks; configuration of core
and access layer switches and wireless access points; support for
the physical network; development and completion of reports and
summaries for IT management, including status reports, problem
reports, progress summaries, change management, and system
utilization reports as needed. Collaborates with key constituencies
and IT leaders to develop security and business continuance
standards and action plans; directs all security audits and tasks
to ensure that the integrity, confidentiality and availability of
information to end-users, is not compromised; ensures that IT
complies with existing laws and regulations and that the
institution's IT infrastructure is secure. Must be willing to carry
a mobile phone and perform duties outside of core business
hours.
The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge,
skills, and abilities:
* Exceptional knowledge of LAN, Routing, Switching, IP Networking,
VPN technologies, Layer 2/3 protocols.
* Knowledge of system security models and protocols.
* Demonstrated ability to devise innovative security solutions and
strategies to address unique requirements and situations.
* Advanced experience troubleshooting, implementing and configuring
network hardware & software to achieve expedited
solutions.
* Deep understanding of EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IPV4 protocols.
* Experience with network documentation and configuration
reports.
* Knowledge of standards for wiring, data closets, copper and fiber
installation, cable testing and certification.
* Ability to forge and sustain effective and productive working
relationships between diverse members of Institutional Technology
staff.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious
working relationships with a variety of campus
constituencies.
* Heightened concern for confidentiality and attention to
detail.
* Effectiveness in dealing with multiple concurrent assignments and
sudden changes in priorities.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially the
ability to effectively impart complex or technical subjects to
diverse audiences.
* A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an
ability to align technical opportunities to institution
goals.
* Ability and availability to work occasional weekend/evening
assignments in both scheduled and unscheduled activities.
* Ability to be on-call to respond to off-hour equipment
problems.
* Prior experience using the following or similar information
security technologies:
* Intrusion detection and prevention: TippingPoint, Snort, Nitro,
Juniper.
o Remote system management: SCCM, Altiris, Symantec.
o Vulnerability assessment and penetration testing: OpenVAS, Core
Impact, Metasploit, WebInspect, Appscan, Nexpose, Web Scarab,
Paros.
o Firewalls: IPTables, Juniper, Cisco, CheckPoint, Palo Alto.
o Network access control: TrustWave, Bradford, Juniper,
Cisco.
o Anti-malware and spam protection: Microsoft ForeFront,
ProofPoint, McAfee, Symantec, Sophos.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational
institution in Computer Science or an Information Technology field
is required.
* Three years of network hardware and software experience
configuring and managing Ethernet switches and/or high-end routers
from a variety of vendors such as Cisco Systems and Juniper
Networks is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Cisco CCNP, CCIE (Routing & Switching)
certification; Cisco CSS/ACE load-balances, Cisco Nexus, Cisco NAC,
MPLS, VoIP telephony, wireless, as well as network monitoring
systems such as: Orion NMS, ArcSight or NetQoS; knowledge of UNIX
and server-based systems; hands-on experience with Cisco,
Checkpoint or Juniper Firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems.
Understanding of the ISO 27000 series of standards.
