Vice President for Academic Affairs

Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, located in Nashville, TN, seeks an energetic academic leader who will build upon the institution's current momentum and remarkable growth to reach the next level of excellence, advancing the practice of art, design and film.

Founded in 1885, Watkins is an independent, nonprofit institution offering BFA degrees in film, fine art, graphic design, interior design, and photography, a BA degree in art, and a post-graduate certificate program in film. The college became a baccalaureate institution in 1997, and is accredited by SACS, NASAD and CIDA. The 400 students come from 29 states and several countries. The faculty is comprised of 20 full-time and 35 adjunct members.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) reports directly to the President and is responsible for: curricular planning, development and evaluation; oversight of all academic programs and academic support areas; leadership and support of the faculty; academic budget and facilities planning, and the accrediting process including preparation of material. The VPAA is the primary accreditation liaison, ensuring accreditation standards and ongoing college-wide assessment. Reporting to the VPAA are six department chairs, Director of Student Life, Registrar, and Library Director.

Candidates should possess: a terminal degree in art, design, film, art history, art education or similar field; a minimum of three years as a dean, associate dean or department chair; experience with institution-wide accreditation and assessment; a record of successful college-level teaching and creative or scholarly work, and excellent communication skills. An understanding of contemporary art, design and film education is essential.

Interested candidates should send the following materials by February 24, 2012: letter addressing the stated responsibilities and qualifications, resume, and contact information for three professional references. Review of materials will begin immediately and continue until an appointment is made. The VPAA will begin in July 2012. Materials can be sent electronically to VPAASearch@watkins.edu or by mail to: Office of the President, Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, 2298 Rosa L. Parks Blvd., Nashville, TN 37228.
