The Department of Nursing at Appalachian State University invites applications for a 12- month, full-time, EPA professional position as Director of Academic Support and Program Compliance. Primary responsibilities for this position will include designing and delivering professional certification workshops and seminars for faculty and students; administering the off campus clinical sites affiliation agreements with agencies in conjunction with the ASU Office of the General Counsel; coordinating the academic advising process for pre-licensure BSN students; coordinating and evaluating program and student compliance and regulatory requirements with clinical agencies and accrediting bodies; and coordinating orientation and transfer advisement for BSN students.

Qualifications for this position include the following:

* a registered nurse with an unrestricted and unencumbered RN license in North Carolina or compact state; * a minimum of ten years of nursing/management experience with knowledge and experience with regulatory (NC Board of Nursing) and accreditation (SACS, CCNE, and Joint Commission) requirements; Certified American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor for health care professionals; * Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The successful candidate will either have completed a BSN degree or be currently enrolled in a BSN program with completion of the degree by July 1, 2012; * demonstrated success in working effectively with nursing education, clinical agencies, community health, and other related health care providers and agencies; and, * excellent communication skills.

Candidates are expected to:
* Develop and deliver professional development and certification workshops and seminars to nursing faculty and students in areas including but not limited to: AHA BLS, HIPAA, OSHA, and Blood Borne Pathogens.

* Develop, establish, and monitor new and existing nursing clinical sites; negotiate educational clinical placements with external agencies for nursing students.

* Provide direction and leadership for pre-licensure BSN student services, including recruitment, admissions, orientation, advisement and compliance issues.

* Serve as an ex-officio member of the pre-licensure BSN Admissions Committee and audit records of prospective and continuing students to ensure that they meet NCBON, CCNE, and Department of Nursing requirements with regard to criminal background checks, drug screens, and immunizations.

* Provide program evaluation support by eliciting, monitoring, evaluating and reporting program outcomes through alumni and employer surveys.

* Ensure that all nursing student records comply with accreditation and clinical agency guidelines, including criminal background checks, drug screens, and immunizations. Counsel students who have positive or questionable criminal background checks and/or drug screen results.

* Develop and maintain processes and tools to elicit and analyze data related to matters of compliance; and work directly with clinical agencies to provide required information/documentation to verify student compliance with agency regulations.
