The Centre for Modern Indian Studies at the
Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen is currently inviting
applications for a
Postdoctoral Fellow in State and Democracy in Modern India
The position will start on 1 April 2012 or thereafter.
We offer a three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility for
renewal contingent upon the availability of funding.
In addition to pursuing a postdoctoral research project, the fellow
will assist in the design and organization of international
conferences on state and democracy in modern India, and in the
teaching of politics courses at the Centre for Modern Indian
Studies. The scholar will be based at the University of Gottingen
in Germany.
Applicants must have a PhD in Political Science or in allied fields
including History, Anthropology, Sociology and Media Studies.
Applications from scholars representing all subfields in the study
of Indian politics are welcome; preference will be given to
candidates whose research and writing addresses one or more of the
following topics: economic liberalization/capitalist transformation
and democratic politics; media and politics; middle class politics;
social movements, civil society and political society; postcolonial
nationalism; postcolonial state formation and transformation.
Candidates with comparative and historical interests are
particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants from all countries are encouraged. English proficiency
is expected; German proficiency is an asset.
The position will provide the following benefits:
The monthly gross salary for the postdoctoral position (salary
scale TV-L E13) will range from 3,150 - 3,700, commensurate with
the applicant's experience.
