The Human Rights Initiative at the University of Wisconsin,
Madison invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship
in human rights, beginning July 1, 2010. The fellow will
participate in a Sawyer Seminar entitled "Vulnerability and
Resilience: Rethinking Human Rights for the 21st Century," which is
funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The fellow will also be
expected to produce a research product during the period of the
fellowship and to contribute to the academic and intellectual life
of the Human Rights Initiative.
The post-doctoral fellow may come from any discipline, including
but not limited to the social sciences, humanities, law, and
medicine. Priority will be given to applicants whose research fits
with the themes of the Sawyer Seminar and the Human Rights

The applicant must have received his or her PhD between July 1,
2006 and June 30, 2010. The stipend for the postdoctoral fellowship
is $40,000, plus benefits.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, current
curriculum vitae, two letters of recommendation, and a
representative writing sample. Also, candidates should provide a
statement outlining their intended work during the fellowship.
