The Chronicle of Higher Education

Facts About The Chronicle

The Chronicle of Higher Education is a national weekly newspaper and 24-7 Web site covering all aspects of college and university life. Begun in 1966 as a nonprofit entity, The Chronicle became a for-profit print publication in 1978. With 49 issues per year and a Web site updated throughout the day, The Chronicle is the most popular destination for news, advice, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators.

The Chronicle also delivers news analysis, investigative reports, blogs, and feature stories. Among its many areas of coverage are:

  • federal and state policies as they affect higher education
  • the business of running a college or university
  • the concerns of faculty members and developments in scholarly research and publishing
  • trends and developments in campus technology
  • admissions and student life
  • foreign institutions and the globalization of higher education.

In addition, The Chronicle Review, a magazine of arts and ideas, publishes essays and commentary by leading scholars and critics, and Chronicle Careers offers career news and advice columns, along with hundreds of job listings.

Based in Washington, D.C., The Chronicle has more than 70 full-time writers and editors, as well as 17 foreign correspondents positioned around the world.

The influence of The Chronicle of Higher Education extends well beyond its readership. When news happens in higher education, Chronicle editors and reporters are routinely sought out for comment by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, CBS, NBC, ABC, and many other news media.
