I'm impressed that "epistemological" appears in The Hollywood Reporter article.  Clearly, the topic of James Franco raises the tone of even the raggiest publications.

I know!  Such is the magic of James Franco.

James Franco is interviewed, and we are permitted to read the interview.

Indeed. I would like to copy edit it, though. Why does the LARB hate commas?

I copy edited David Foster Wallace once, pis*ing off quite a few people before I was thrown off a certain site.  He needed it.

"There is a fake version of me
And he is the one who writes
These poems.
He has an attitude and swagger
That I don’t have.
But on the page, this fake me
Is the me that speaks . . ."

I weep at the tender beauty of James's verse.  Truly a Renaissance man for our time.  Let's all take a solemn moment to appreciate the fact that we all live in the Era of James.

Nope.  He writes like a college senior.

I know, right? I enjoy Franco's movies well enough and he certainly seems to be talented, but that poem is nothing exceptional. Not bad -- just not exceptional either.

No, the poem is indisputably bad.  Middle-school-scribbled-in-my-diary bad.  I'm a professional, so I can speak with some authority on these matters.

Thankfully, the lousy poetry does nothing to diminish the greater charms of James, in my view.  Indeed, it might enhance his appeal to know that he has these thoroughly human shortcomings.

I am not qualified to comment on his poetry, but he uses 'heteronormative' in a sentence in the interview, so clearly his academic aspirations and qualifications are legitimate.

We are all unworthy of James Franco. But when we speak his name in our writings on the fora, we partake just a little bit in his magic.

This isn't the real James Franco, or the real me. Accept no substitutes.

But be impressed with one of the posted comments:
It was awkward, but I managed to masturbate to this.

James Franco, even a faux James Franco, causes people to reach for the heights.
