I don't really think that's enough.  If Britain is going to have a monarchy, it needs to mean something, or else following the royal family is just like following a posh version of Eastenders.

I would propose a 500-foot statue of her to be placed in every town center.

So which of the following apply:

He is sucking up in the hope of becoming Sir Michael? H
He doesn't think through consequences before opening his mouth?
He hasn't noticed the significant cuts to education that are happening on his watch and thinks we have 60m to spare?
He just doesn't care?

Should anyone listen to him, I believe there is an Italian ship's captain likely to be looking for another job.

Dibs on the old one.  I feel I've outgrown my Laser.

You are aware that it has a bit of a leak problem?

I should point out to our colleagues not in the UK, that this same government has raised university tuition from 3000 a year (about $5000) to 9000 a year (about 15,000).

But doncha think that the Queen, who according to Forbes Magazine 'has an estimated personal net worth of $500 million... ' and 'Not included are those assets belonging to the Crown Estate, which she gets to enjoy as Queen, such as $10 billion worth of real estate, Buckingham Palace (estimated to be worth another $5 billion), the Royal Art collection, and unmarked swans on stretches of the Thames.  The Crown has claimed ownership of these birds since the 12th century when swan meat was considered a delicacy; they are no longer eaten. The Queen also receives an annual government stipend of $12.9 million.'

I'll be expecting the UK taxpayer to take care of that for me, naturally.

From what I know of HM, she'd torpedo that idea permanently after hearing his smarmy and insensitive foolishness.

If I didn't suspect that Michael Gove doesn't inhale, I'd think he huffed a yacht before making that recommendation.

I live in continental Europe and I hardly ever contemplate how good it feels to live in a republic. And then news like these come along... ;o)
