Ok, Gulf Coasters - where's it going to go?  Everyone on edge yet?

GD has already made an offer of house room to some friends on the coast if they need it.

New Orleans is making plans to bug out, apparently. The new guv is much smarter about this.

We're several hours off the coast, but with our luck, Gustav will follow the same path as Katrina, Rita, Dennis, Fay, and a couple of tropical storms I can't remember the names to, and come right over us. We'll have rain, high winds, and tornadoes to deal with.

Tulane and Loyola have both cancelled classes tomorrow and are evacuating their students.

Most La. schools have cancelled classes through Tuesday. The storm's gaining strength, and there's a mandatory evacuation from New Orleans.

I spoke with a friend at USM-Gulf Coast. They think it's going to hit western LA or Texas and only give them minimal winds and some rain. I called to offer my place as an evacuation point, if needed. He's got some new colleagues from Europe who are freaking at the idea of a hurricane.

Welcome to the South, boys!  Hurricanes and tornados! Wheee!
