I'm blaming my stupid anemia. I just can't get up that early and stay up.

Monday
-Run
-Read 11 Polyanna articles
-Menu Plan
-Grocery Shop

octo, the baby clothes were the Things lo, these many years ago and have never been dealt with (thus the need for The Great Declutter. As for the Estranged Thing being in the dishes, well, there's just no figuring out Estranged Thing. . .

That decluttering thing was long overdue...

I need to do a moving-next-year declutter, but I can't face it.

It's too soon. Get the diss done... Or, if you have periods where you have to wait on feedback for a chapter, then work on the decluttering in those interim periods.

I'm actually in great shape on that front. I have an outline of both chapters everyone agrees on both the content and the lengths of the various subsections. Even if I write one section a week (so far this summer I've been doing 2 pretty easily) I should have a complete draft by labor day. Since I can't defend until March  for technical reasons, I figure I will be doing a lot of revising/prepping article manuscripts. With any luck, this means I won't have much to change after the defense. Feel free to dig this up and quote it at me later when things don't work out as planned.

In one hour I will get off the couch. I can already tell that a major challenge this summer is going to be finding a balance between being structured enough to get things done, but not so structured that it doesn't feel like summer.

Weekend
-go to campus - Saturday
-go to dry cleaners - Saturday
-go to grocery store - Saturday
-exercise - Sunday
-clean porch - Sunday?

near future
-take stuff to Salvation Army
-buy picture frame
-buy basket for scrap paper
-get car tune-up
-buy plane ticket

summer reading

Today, I shall attempt some or all of:
  • exercise & vitamins
  • morning scoop
  • write abstract and bio for C-paper; send off same
  • nominate students for that other award
  • ironing; fold, sort, 'n put away
  • family dinner
  • The Great Declutter: clean LR, DR, kitchen, bathroom; deal with Thing 1's curtain; deal with those white stackers

Hooray for the exercisers!

I've taught Sunday School, worshiped, and added a couple of pages to Chapter 1 of the 303 textbook wanna be.  Now, I'm off for a bike ride. Yeehaw!

Allow me to impart some words of wisdom. Things - be they shoes, love, cars, or a freshly painted porch - are only new for a short period of time.  I think I spent the last hour trying to get my porch to look like it did right after they painted it almost a year ago. Except, that was a year ago. So of course it doesn't look as new now. But at  least it's clean. I'm exhausted, though.  My other revelation is that I might want to paint my porch floor a darker color, so that the dirt doesn't show as much. (Or would it show more?)

paddington, you gotta stop looking closely at porch floors! Avert your eyes and you don't notice the dirt so much. A sweep, an occasional mop, and you're good to go.

I have biked 21 miles. I would eat lunch but we seem to be mostly out of food. I'm trying to convince Mr. W. that he needs to go to the grocery store since that is one of his tasks and his wife is starving...

MondaySunday

-One section Finito

TTO has decided he has time to micromanage this summer. I just saw my nice easy timeline get destroyed. That will teach me to put anything optimistic down.

Doesn't he have other stuff he should be doing? Other students he should be annoying? Sheesh!

Averting your eyes is probably the best solution to all sorts of problems!

He has three other students, but all of them are at least a semester behind me. #2 should defend in the same semester I do, just at the end rather than the beginning. (He used to have four, but one threw a huge hissy fit and changed her whole committee)

#2: Collecting dissertation data this summer
#3 & #4: Comps this summer (One of these is the Anointed One. The Anointed One is a crappy writer and could be in trouble if comps aren't blinded by the right person the other one should sail through)

To the best of my knowledge, he has three different research projects going with us, his own research project, a summer class he is teaching, big time committee work, his own research and supervising #2's data collection. I honestly thought he was way to busy to interfere too much with the writing of the findings chapter.

I have phoned my elderly friends and made some serious progress on chapter two of the book. This chapter is about half drafted now, I think. Much more work to be done, however.

I will dig up the big list next and rearrange it for summer productivity.

I think I hate writing autobiographical sketches and abstracts even more than I hate writing the frickin' paper.
