has anyone here ever gotten a job offer over the weekend? I would normally think not, but on one of the threads someone mentioned they received a phone call over the weekend about a campus interview, so you never know. After 5 pm today I thought my throbbing heart might take a rest until Monday morn, but just thought I'd doublecheck.

To my knowledge, it's almost unlikely, unless they already gave you verbal offer

Correct, as usual, TZ. That's because you are not Dude. TZ, however, is Dude. TZ is my favorite. I wish YOU began with A.

An actual job offer over the weekend? No.
A phone interview request via email (from faculty) over the weekend? Yes.
Generally speaking, faculty work on the weekends. Admin staff don't. Deans sometimes do.
Your nerves will like you more, though, if you just work with the default assumption that you won't be getting an offer on the weekend. (And good luck!)

For God's sake, take a Xanax and chill the f*ck out. You cannot control what happens now. Neither trying to predict the future nor fretting about the past will actually produce results. You are whipping yourself into a frenzy and you have no one to blame but yourself. If you have a therapist, go see them. If not, read The Worry Cure. Breathe. Take a walk. Have a lot of sex. Start a house project. Finish a house project. Go hiking. Play a video game. Assume you didn't get the job and get your life back under your control. If it turns out you did, it will be a nice surprise. And what is it with you and not capitalizing the opening sentences of your posts? I don't understand this. VP

For God's sake, take a Xanax and chill the f*ck out. Voxy speaks from a place of compassion, if in an annoyed voice. Stop posting these unanswerable questions and find something to do already.

i've known people who got offers over the weekend. in many places the chair makes the offer, not the dean. anyway, as others have said you have to think about something else and just wait for the call to come.

Good thing you got the heads-up. The entire fora will be closed.

Your professors were probably afraid of your galactic genius and did everything they could (behind the scenes) to thwart your hedginess. Hedgie loves to read.

The answer is yes. I received a job offer by phone over the weekend. I have also received a job offer Friday night after regular business hours. From a small set of n=3, two offers have come over the weekend.

I have also had two offers from chairs on Saturday. Contact with the Dean was either via email or during the week. I have had an offer after "normal" working hours, as well.
But I am in music and we work crazy and odd hours. YMMV.

Some of our department chairs (but not all of them) have preferred to make the job offer calls from home, or from the office when no one is around to create distraction. Even Sunday is not out, for that matter, when offering last-minute NTT positions after one of the usual NTT faculty has suddenly resigned.
But we never take those extra Monday federal holidays -- mucks up the teaching schedule and teaching days too much. Labor Day and MLK holiday are taken as the last day before the new semester starts, which doesn't get the weeks/classes out of sync.
