I'm about as anti-commercialization, anti-Hallmark, anti-etc. as they come, but I'm not averse to wishing my friends here a Happy Valentine's Day!

Special wishes to PaulTuttle, Octoprof, Conjugate, Slinger, and MsParticularity (for all your support, PMs, etc.)!

Love and chocolates to you all!

I am enjoying a very pretty bunch of alstroemeria MrP brought me this morning. We quit contributing to the price surge on roses for Valentine's Day many years ago.

Happy Valentine's Day!  I am very grateful for the support this community has provided to me in the last few years, and I wish you all love and chocolates, if I may quote MsP.

Aww, thanks ALH! Happy V Day to you, too.

As for me and Mr. Slinger, we have planned a night on the couch in our sweatpants with a bucket of chicken.

Let's get summer over with! Me want snow!

We don't spend on red roses (if I ever get any from GD I'll know he wants a divorce. He hates them), but go for the other colors. Right now, I'm looking at some roses that are cream with dark red edges. If he could find them, he'd get me the "chocolate" roses he bought for our wedding night. They were gorgeous and real roses, not actually chocolate. Nearly impossible to find as I discovered looking for them on the internet one day. The ones I've seen are NOT the ones he bought 12 years ago.

Other than that, we'll have steaks but the rest of the evening will go as any normal evening. GD isn't into the Valentine thing as it has become.

Sadly, my wife and I both have experiments that will run into the night this week, so we opted for an early valentines day lunch this weekend.

I've never thought red roses were all that pretty, not compared to the others out there- I've got a soft spot for some of the "sunset" colored roses that I occasionally run across. I do usually avoid buying flowers in the weeks surrounding valentines day- the prices double or triple! I prefer to buy them the rest of the year, when they're reasonable and a nice surprise.

The local grocery was selling two steaks in a heart shaped container over the weekend.  I didn't buy those, but I did buy one honkin NY strip that I will cook tonight with garlic mashed and green beans in a warm bacon vinaigrette.  Then, we'll watch teevee in our pj's.

There won't be any cards, flowers, or presents.  There never are.

Happy Valentine's Day! And chocolates for everyone.

The fiancé is making me dinner tonight, and I am theoretically making us a chocolate soufflé for dessert. Furthermore, we are going to eat dinner at the dining room table like grownups, instead of sprawled in front of the television set as we usually do. It will be Very Special.

Yes, Happy Valentine's Day!  I don't post often, but I do enjoy the community here.

I will get ice cream instead of roses.  And I will be very happy that I did! It tells me that my husband is indeed the perfect match for me.

So STpouse gave me a call this morning, asking how I was and wishing me a Happy Valentine's Day. I returned the wish, then there was a long pause:

STpouse: "I, uh, didn't get you anything."

Me: "Great! I didn't get you anything either!"

Then a collective sigh of relief.

We don't usually do much for this holiday, but I think we each figured that maybe, with our new living arrangements, things would be different. Fortunately, not.

Flowers and chocolates to all of you.

I had almost exactly this conversation with Mr. Alcott last night. Turned out he'd written me a letter, though <swoon>, so I baked him a batch of his favorite cookies while he's at a gig tonight.

We managed to get ourselves and our kids through the day without purchasing a single greeting card. The kids made very simple Valentines to pass out at their school parties. They also made us stay in bed this morning while they made us a Valentine's Day PowerPoint and taped construction paper hearts to the walls.

But I still wore black today.
