Sadly, I figured I would have a few kindred over-admined people out there.

I'm trying to practice saying no. Its difficult.

Are you all new-ish hires as well? I wonder if this is hitting us particularly hard because of that...

I think you need to go to your head of department and discuss reallocation of part of your admin load to others. The usual rule is to give lecturers/assistant profs fairly minimal admin loads to let them build their research profile. But I have heard of lecturers in the UK complaining about high admin loads...

I went to my HoD 3-4 times in one year with no results (s/he is incompetent, but really nice).

Some departments at my Uni are good about lecturers, others aren't. My department is full of research stars so the lecturers pick up the admin slack.

People will give you as much work as you let them because 99% of people hate those admin tasks. You have to learn how to say no.  Practice it every day in your mirror--a little hang wring, an "I'm sorry, but..."... mentally repeat it on your way into work. Whatever it takes, but you must train yourself to say no, no, and no.
