Here is a fun 20 minute project:

• launch Google Chrome
• install the web app Publish5
• open Publish 5 and build an Android app by importing some RSS feeds or Twitter feeds or whatever
• send it to your phone
• tomorrow, look for opportunities to show it off

In about 20 minutes I built an app for my institution with our news and Twitter feeds. It isn't really particularly good, but it will impress the hell out of the techies in my meeting tomorrow morning, who rag on me as a clueless historian. "How did you do that?" they will ask. "Oh, I learned to code last weekend," I'll tell them. "I'll be damned if I know what you guys do all day."

I think you should have named this thread "Create an Android App, Impress you T&P Committee."  That's my fantasy, at least...

I love this part.  Be sure to tell us how the tech folks respond when you launch that one at them!
