Research conference or teaching conference?
«

This summer has 2 meetings I'd like to attend, which are unfortunately simultaneous. One is a workshop in my subfield of basketweaving (I had a legitimate hope that I might be one of the invited speakers, but no dice) and the other is a research-based conference on "using basketweaving to teach sock knitting". Conference A would likely have lots of people I already know, and I could present a poster or contributed talk, neither of which is particularly prestigious in my field. At conference B I'd have less to say but more to learn. I'm up for tenure this fall; maybe I should just stay home and write more papers. Any advice?

I find that research conferences inspire me to write more. That might be a reason to go to the research conference.

Forgot to add: although I am a basketweaver, I'm in a department of sock knitting and basketweaving, and teach both.
