Cold leftover pizza is breakfast supreme.

Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day.

I rarely want food for at least a couple of hours after I get up, so I either bring breakfast to work (mostly things suggested above or leftovers) or else I end up eating whatever I packed for lunch at 10:30 or so.  I keep instant oatmeal packets in my desk in case of emergency.

The young Spike (thorn?) is not a big breakfast eater either, but I have to coax her to eat anyway because in 3rd grade you can't bring breakfast and have it at your desk.  She does like smoothies, which are really simple and non-messy to make if you have an immersion blender.  Just blend it right in the glass and stick in a straw, then run hot water over the blender attachment or toss it in the dishwasher.

She also likes pumpkin custard, which is just pumpkin pie filling baked in small dishes instead of a pie shell.  It's super easy to mix up.  I usually throw an extra egg or two into the mix for some more protein.  Bake one batch on the weekend and there's a week's worth of yummy little breakfasts in the fridge.

I don't know why anyone would get up in the morning if it weren't for breakfast.  I love breakfast.
Salmon and cream cheese on a bagel is my favourite, or just a bagel with cream cheese and jam. or both.
Apple chopped up with almonds and yogurt is a good extra.
Scrambled eggs are always good except you have to wash the pan.
Baked beans on toast.
And soon, Easter buns!
But the pumpkin pie filling idea is genius.  This might become my new favourite thing.

This semester it's been keeping a container of granola at work and bringing a yogurt with me every morning. Instant lazy parfait!

Over the summer I was baking a batch of muffins and refrigerating/freezing them -- then microwaving one or two in the morning.

I got a donut pan for baking donuts at Christmas and I want to try using that more too, along the same lines as the muffin plan.

If I'm home, frozen whole-grain waffles with peanut butter and jelly or peanut butter and bananas, or just with some margarine are a favorite.

Frozen waffles! hadn't thought of that.  Then what - do you microwave them?  Or can you toast them?
I will have mine with maple syrup, blueberries and yoghurt.

This whole thread is making me look forward to breakfast in just a few hours!  I'm mainly a breakfast scrounger--some days a plain ol' bowl of Chex or whatever is fine, other days I crave something more substantial (but rarely acquire), and in between, our local bakery's Danish will fill the bill.  Coffee to accompany any of these is a must.

But I live for Mr. Owl's homemade hash-browns (with garlic and onion) and over-easy eggs.  They require about 20 minutes prep and cooking, though, so they're a delicacy relegated to weekends only.

Oatmeal with a little peanut butter stirred in is good.

I freeze homemade waffles, wrapping them in plastic first, then foil, to prevent freezer burn. They go on a baking sheet in a 400' oven for about 10 minutes to reheat.

I toast mine. I assume you could microwave them if you don't mind them being a little floppy instead of crispy.

All this talk about breakfast - yum! I also adore breakfast but, like many of you, I am not able to eat first thing in the AM. I am a big fan of the low-fat muffins in my building's cafe though and, of course, coffee is must! I also enjoy fruit smoothies on non-teaching days when I don't have to be in the office right away and have the time for them.

Frozen waffles you say? I must try these (growing up my parents never bought things like sugar cereal, expensive pop tarts or frozen waffles for us so it never occurs to me to buy them for myself today).

The frozen commercial ones are mostly like hockey pucks. I make my own waffles and freeze the extras -- much better. Also, I use a very eggy batter and whole-grain flour, so some nutrition sneaks by in waffle form.

Cold leftover pizza is breakfast supreme.

Just take it out of its box and chow down.

The Fiona

Breakfast supreme it is, as I am rediscovering this morning.

I'm not sure I could really eat pizza for breakfast every day. Nor, for that matter, could I eat it for dinner often enough to have leftovers regularly available for breakfast.

It really is an amazing breakfast, though.

My breakfast pattern has migrated from strictly cold cereal and milk, to adding blueberries, to substituting almond milk for cow's milk, to unsweetened almond milk, to smoothies (fave combo at the moment: spinach, blueberries, bananas, tbs of peanut butter and unsweetened almond milk).  I eat Power Bars if I oversleep or I'm too rushed to sit down for breakfast.

I used to worry about functioning well enough to make anything for breakfast, but it's has become an increasingly important meal.  I had to relearn how to eat breakfast to facilitate my weight loss.  Then I discovered coffee, and looking forward to a cup helps me get out of bed and start my day happier.  I used to feel gross in the morning too, but now I wake up pleasantly hungry.

See, I feel both.  I have been up for about an hour, and I feel simultaneously hungry and revolted by the thought of food.  And, I'll be honest, very reluctant to exert any effort in making food right now.
