OK, I have Googled this a number of ways and I cannot find the solution to what must be an easy problem to fix.

I am writing a PPT presentation and I am not using the default background, font style or font color for my slides. How do I make the damn thing remember the formatting for when I click "new slide" so I don't have to change the settings on Every. Single. Slide. as I am writing it?

Can you duplicate the slide instead of inserting a new slide and then just add your new text/photo/whatever?  Or perhaps there is a way to save your design as a style?  I have no idea but those are things I would try.

Confused and sad. Or happy. I'm not sure...

View master slide.
Reformat the background on the master. Now all slides should have the background you picked.

My work ethic is somewhere in Lake Buena Vista. I need to go look for it.

Done. Thanks, both of you!

Doing work would be so much more of a PITA without the help of the fora.

Yup, this.  You can also use the master slide(s) to enter headers and footers and other repetitive material.  I also made a custom layout as a master slide, and now it's always there for reuse.
