Note: personal observations + talking to friends = anecdotal evidence

Yes, on the other hand, one "this is how I think it ought to be" is trumped by several people sharing anecdotal evidence.  Peer-reviewed evidence would trump anecdotal evidence, but anecdotal evidence is still better than pulling an idea out of a nether region and insisting that idea is valid in an absolute sense.

My guess is that we're probably in agreement, but I'm not sure.

If your point is that peer-reviewed evidence > anecdotal evidence > assertion of how I would like things to be, then we're in complete agreement.
